Before Your Visit: How to Prepare for Leak Detection

How Should You Prepare for Your Leak Detection Visit?

Infographic checklist for how to prepare for a leak detection visit

To prepare for leak detection visit day, clear your floors, jot down your signs, and skip DIY fixes. A bit of prep helps us find the leak fast. It keeps your visit on track. The list below has it all. Not sure about a step? Call us at (833) 542-3027. We are open 24/7.

Your visit is step 3 of our slab leak repair process. Good prep makes that step smooth.

  1. Clear floors where you saw signs. Move rugs, boxes, and chairs from warm spots and wet zones. We need open floor for our tools.
  2. Jot down your signs. Note what you saw and when. Dates help us a lot.
  3. Pull your last water bills. A jump in use is a big clue. Have the sums ready.
  4. Put pets in another room. Pets get in the way of new folks and tools. A shut door keeps all calm.
  5. Have an adult at home. One adult must let us in and say yes to the plan.
  6. Do not try to fix it first. DIY patches can mask the leak. They make our test hard.
  7. Save a park spot by your door. We haul heavy tools. A close spot saves time.
  8. Keep your phone on you. We may call if our time shifts a bit.

What Should You Clear Before We Arrive?

Homeowner clearing floor access before a slab leak detection visit

Start with rooms that show signs. Warm floor spots, damp rugs, or musty smells mark the zone. Clear a path a few feet wide round those spots.

You need not clear the whole house. Just give us room to work near the odd spots. Move small rugs, shoes, toys, and bins. Big chairs can stay. We work round them.

Must I pull up rugs or tile? No. Never pull up floors before we come. Our tools read through floors. Torn floors spread damp and make our job hard.

What Details Should You Note About Your Symptoms?

Homeowner noting slab leak symptoms like warm floors and high water bills before a visit

Write what you saw and when. Small notes help us aim our tools. Good notes list:

  • When you first heard water with taps off
  • Which floor spots feel warm or damp
  • When your bill jumped, and by how much
  • Cracks in floors or walls, and when they showed
  • Low force at taps, and which taps
  • Musty smells, and which rooms smell worst

Rough dates are fine. Plain notes are fine. Hand your list to your tech at the door.

What if I am not sure it is a slab leak? That is what the visit is for. Write what you see. We will sort it out with our tools.

What Should You NOT Do Before the Visit?

Some moves slow us down or hide the leak. Steer clear of these:

  • No sealants in your pipes. Sealants coat pipe walls. They mute the sounds we hunt for.
  • Do not kill the main water for days. We need water in the lines to trace the leak. We may ask you to shut it for a bit while we test.
  • Do not break the floor. Cuts in the slab kill the clues our tools need.
  • Do not run all taps just before we come. Normal use is fine. A flood of use can blur test reads.

Can I use water as normal till you come? Yes. Live as you do. Just skip sealants and do not tear things up.

Who Should Be Home During the Visit?

An adult must be home. We need one who can take our questions, hear our finds, and say yes to next steps. Renters should keep the owner on call.

If you cannot be there, send a grown-up you trust. Make sure we can reach you by phone when we go over choices and prices.

Must the home owner be there? An adult who can say yes must be there or on call. We cannot start fix work with no signed-off price.

When Should You Call Us Right Away Instead of Waiting?

Some signs should not wait. Call (833) 542-3027 at once if you see:

  • Water pools on the floor from no clear source
  • A big, fast jump in your water bill
  • Water sounds under the floor
  • A hot floor spot that keeps growing
  • Cracks that spread across slab or walls

We are open 24/7. No hour is wrong to call. Fast moves curb harm.

FAQs

How soon should I start to prep?

Thirty minutes is plenty. Clear room, jot signs, keep pets shut in. That is the whole job.

Must I shut my water off first?

No. Keep it on. We need water in the lines to trace the leak. We may ask for a brief shut while we test.

What if I tried a DIY fix?

Tell your tech what you did. Sealants can mute sounds. True notes help us shift our tack.

Can I be at work while you come?

An adult must be home or on call. If you can’t be there, leave one you trust who can reach you for approvals.

Do you need in each room?

No. We start where you saw signs. Your tech will say if we must check more rooms.

What will the visit cost?

National estimates as of 2026 set the visit at $150–$500. Hard jobs run up to about $600. We lock your exact price first.
